A special monument of the area is the legendary Venetian castle (dating back to the 13th century), where theatrical performances, music concerts and other cultural events take place in the summer as part of the Olympus Festival.
The Festival of Olympus has been established here for 30 years now, and is the summit of the year’s cultural activities. It embraces Pieria, Macedonia and Thessalia and has the widest range of cultural activities in the Balkans.
The programme includes productions of plays from the Ancient and Modern Greek and Foreign repertoire, ballet, classical and folk concerts, as well as talks on the archaeological significance of the area.
In addition, it is very close to the restored traditional settlement of Palaios Panteleimonas. There you will find fine taverns. A little above the settlement, at the church of Profitis Ilias, is the starting point for paragliders.
